Southampton is an upscale neighborhood of custom-built homes bordered on the south by Rice University, on the west by Greenbriar, on the north by Bissonnet, and the east by Ashby. Original homes were built in the early 1930's, but there are many new homes in the neigborhood, as well. The architecture varies from very contemporary, to soft contemporary, ranch, English, French, Spanish and more, reflecting the diversity in this community. Prices range from $600,000 to multi-million dollar homes.
A resident once told me that the neighborhood founders planted Live Oak tress along Sunset Boulevard and Water Oaks on the east-west streets on either side of Sunset. These Live Oak trees have created a canopy reaching across the Boulevard to provide shade for the walkers, bikers, runners and gardeners of the area. The Water Oaks have provided shade and value for all residents, as well. The Southampton Garden Club has been in existance for generations and they still have a Flower Show. Most streets still have alleys where trash is picked up. Garages open to the alley. Some original homes had basements. The proximity to Rice University, the Texas Medical Center and downtown Houston has made this a very convenient and attractive neighborhood for many of Houston's leaders, past and present. Fleming Park has been the destination for many birthday parties, family reunions, and picnics for generations. If you are looking for a stimulating neighborhood with interesting neighbors, convenience to all the best Houston has to offer, I can help you find your dream home here!
