BRAES HEIGHTS is located just south of West University Place, north of Braes Bayou, west of Stella Link and east of Buffalo Speedway. The HISD schools for this neighborhood are Mark Twain Elementary, Pershing Middle School, and Lamar Sr. High School. Mark Twain and Lamar are part of the International Baccalaureate program. Pershing Middle School is a Fine Arts Magnet school. Braes Heights homes were originally ranch-style homes, and newer homes are two story. This neighborhood is part of Braeswood Place Homeowners Association. Many of the originals have been remodeled and updated. Lots in this neighborhood are generously sized, ranging from approximately 7,000 sq. feet to over 10,000 sq. feet. In the last ten years, all the infrastructure has been replaced and expanded in the water and sewer services, streets with sidewalks, and new street lighting. Another advantage of this neighborhood is the David Weekley YMCA and City of Houston Library adjacent to Mark Twain and Pershing. Pershing Science students have created an organic garden which sells produce in the summer months. Karl Young Park is always a hub of activity across Stella Link. Walking trails under the shade trees make exercise more comfortable, especially during the summer. Braes Heights's location is quite near Rice University and the Texas Medical Center, and is also convenient to Greenway Plaza, the Galleria and downtown Houston. This results in a diverse population which is attracted to great schools and family-friendly amenities, as well as those who are older and have enjoyed this area for a long time. Picture yourself home in Braes Heights!
