The Heights

THE HEIGHTS is a highly desirable neighborhood, just north and west of downtown, with much history, and reminders of another era, the Victorian period.  Since the 1990's, this area has witnessed a real transformation because of young, highly-paid professionals who want to live near their work in downtown Houston.  They have moved here to restore the original Victorian architecture, or build new homes in the Victorian or Craftsman tradition.  This group of young and young-at-heart residents have created traditions that reflect their interest in visual art, live music, and preserving their neighborhood.  There is always something to do in The Heights!  White Linen Night in early August, Lights in the Heights and Holiday Home Tour in December, The Heights Home Tour, and Opera in The Heights are all reflective of the culture of this area. The World War II Memorial on the wide esplanade of Heights Blvd. is one of Houston's special public art installations, remembering those who served our country at that time.  Great restaurants, wine bars, antique shops, and many Mom 'n Pop small businesses make this area a shopping mecca for all Houstonians.  Picture yourself The Heights!
